Project Athena - Day 270 (Freebie)

Wood and Ice

It was a chilly, crisp day for shooting when the sun finally peaked through the blanket of clouds in the late afternoon. I was able to pull away from work, take a drive into the foothills and try out the new camera in 10˚ temps. She did great! It feels really satisfying to be cultivating a relationship with my new sidekick. I am learning more about her capabilities every time I pick her up and she continues to amaze me. Granted, we are still in the honeymoon phase but with spring coming, the days getting longer and the time change on the horizon, there is gonna be a whole lot of getting to know each other. Winky, winky.

Blue Icicle Towers

This summer, I visited the Chihuly glass art exhibit at the Denver Botanic Gardens on several occasions and this spectacular piece that greeted visitors at the entrance was truly one of my favorites. 650 glass “icicles” dazzled the sky, both day and night.

I chose to share this as a winter photo, even though it was taken in August, because I love the cool winter colors and the glossy, smooth surfaces juxtapose to needle sharp spikes. It represents the winter season perfectly. Enjoy.

Project Athena - Day 204 (Winter)

Icicles

I hear it's gonna be winter here in Colorado for the next week so I am gonna welcome the cold and snow, embrace it and make it my theme. I am sure that when this theme is done, I am gonna be done with winter as well.

I took this shot midday with an azure blue sky and winter's sun low in the southern horizon. The under exposure makes it look like a night time shot with stars and moons shining in the sky as the tiny water drops fall from the cycles.
