Project Athena - Day 314 (Framed)

Framed in Lights

I wanted to get outside to shoot today but the rain didn't stop until just around the same time the sun went down. So I am sharing one of my first night shots I took earlier this week. This is one of my favorite places to go rest and heal. Enjoy.

Project Athena - Day 149 (Reflection)

Reflecting on Taking Action

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
— Wayne Gretzki

I shot this picture in Saratoga last week and decided to post it today because I had a profound and deep awareness when this photo revealed itself to me that  I just feel compelled to share.

One morning as I soaked in the 107 degree pool,  relaxing and allowing the healing waters to penetrate all the layers of the bodies defenses, I noticed the reflection of the pine tree on the water, framed within the opening of the teepee. I thought to myself, "That's cool. I will come back to shoot it later." But then I couldn't let myself relax again. The shot was niggling at me and soon I realized how often in my life, I tell myself I can do something later instead when the opportunity is ripe. I even convince myself that there is some nobility in just sticking with the course I am on instead of truly being present to what has shown up in the stillness and being willing to adjust my course to flow and receive the gift of what is presenting itself.

So, capitulating to my own story and resistance, I got out of the pool, went to my room and grabbed my camera. I came back to the pool hoping I could shoot the reflection without taking my expensive technology into the water. Alas, another awareness...sometimes, things can only be "seen" from a very precise perspective. So very carefully, I lowered myself back into the pool, my camera safely strapped around my wrists and held high above my head. I maneuvered back into the exact position I was in when I first saw the reflection and waited for the waters to still themselves.

In a single snap of the shutter, I knew I had captured a truly unique view of the world, literally and metaphorically. Not many have experienced this beautiful reflection and even fewer have found it compelling enough to make a record of their experience to share with the world. I felt completely fulfilled at having listened to my own inner guidance to act "now". I hope you enjoy this view as much as I did. Smiling and grateful.
