The Magic of Three

There is certainly something powerful and magical about the number three. Today, as I was shooting, I was contemplating some of the ways that three shows up in life...heaven, earth, and waters; body, mind and spirit; birth, life, and death; beginning, middle and end; the triangle; the fleur-de-lis; the Holy Trinity; past, present and future; the three wise guys (you know the ones that visited the baby Jesus); the three days of death before the resurrection; the three little pigs; the three bears; three wishes from a genie; on your mark, get set, go; three dimensions; three blind mice; three musketeers; three lines in a haiku poem; three ring circus....

Project Athena - Day 177 (Threes)

Do We Really Need Alternative Fuel Sources?

During the long, but beautiful drive home from southern Utah back into Colorado today, I was super excited  about the photo I was planning to take at the National Wind Technology Center just outside of Boulder. Little did I know, the entire front range was socked in with thick smog like I have never seen before. The brown cloud was so disgusting, I just wanted to turn around and drive back to Utah. (Just kidding, kind of). As we descended I-70 into the west Denver, my eyes began to burn and it was even difficult to breath. I felt my energy drop, and a huge amount of stress in my body.

Despite the fatigue and disappointment, Lara and I took the short detour to see if there was a shot to be had anyway. By the time we got there, I had a pout-pout face. (yes, I have reverted to 2 and 3 year old vocabulary after my week with the kids) and I wanted to call it a bust but Lara encouraged me to make it work. So....it's not the picture I imagined for 12 hours in the car but I guess the irony of the clean energy against the choking brown cloud is photo worthy.

Tomorrow is another day. I hope it's windy!

Project Athena - Day 176 (Threes)

Zion!

Today I had the pleasure of dipping my toes into Zion National Park. I really could spend an entire year exploring this gorgeous landscape. It's breath takingly beautiful and the geological history is fascinating. 

The Patriarchs are three neighboring sandstone peaks on the west side of Zion Canyon. I guess they were named by a Methodist minister and so they got biblical daddy names, Abraham Peak, Isaac Peak, and Jacob Peak. I personally don't see the resemblance but I didn't let the names of things in the park get in the way of seeing the beauty.
