Project Athena - Day 38 (Sunrise/Sunset)

A Colorado Sunrise

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
— Rumi

I drove to the mountains today looking for THE wildlife/sunset shot of a lifetime. Instead, I experienced a drive through Rocky Mountain National Park during a refreshing, long rain with lightening, and then I watched some elk graze in a gorgeous meadow as the sun set. Somehow, I came away with no pictures that actually fit the theme this week. There was the one of the bull elk drooling buckets of slime down the side of his mouth as he chewed on his grassy dinner...but that would have really been a stretch of the imagination to make it work here.

Maybe there will be a week of "outtakes" and you'll get to see it then. For now, this is from my Sunday morning shoot.

Project Athena - Day 37 (Sunrise/Sunset)

Every Sunset is Followed by a Sunrise

When I admire the wonder of a sunset, or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator.
— Mahatma Gandhi

Project Athena - Day 36 (Sunrise/Sunset)

When the Morning Comes

When the morning comes
I will hold her in my arms,
I will touch the rising sun
And drink the dawns sweet charms.

When the noontide comes
I will watch him steal the morn,
Watch him trying leisurely
To keep the night unborn.

Circles and velvet skies
Shadows following light,
Each day the world turns around
I feel my soul taking flight.

Circles and velvet skies
Shadows following light,
Watch this love pierce the dark
And bring the sun through the night.

When the evening comes
I will sigh and let him by
There’s no time for him to linger
No time to set aside.
He must hasten to catch the dawn
Like a runner in a race
When he comes into her light
He’ll touch and then embrace.

Circles and velvet skies
Shadows following light,
Each day the world turns around
I feel my soul taking flight.

Circles and velvet skies
Shadows following light,
Watch this love pierce the dark
And bring the sun through the night.
