Project Athena - Day 196 (Food)

Happy Solstice!

As the solstice approaches, I was inspired this morning to make a yin yang. (Thank you Lara for being the food artist for this shot.)  This feels like a perfect ending to this theme and awesome beginning to next week's theme, "light".

Tomorrow will be a true celebration for me with both a new moon and Winter Solstice synchronistically happening at the same time. It's going to my day for releasing any disappointments and regrets of the past and allowing a clean transition into new opportunities and creative energies. I hope you can join in the celebration and in whatever ritual feels appropriate for you. LET US WELCOME THE LIGHT!

Project Athena - Day 195 (Food)

Today I was thinking about what it actually takes to feed a planet's inhabitants. Wrapping my head around the massiveness of the whole food industry is impossible. I simply cannot fathom the energy that goes into modern growing and processing techniques that bring to market edible, nutritious, affordable, packaged sustenance on a daily basis.

This week has deepened my appreciation for the abundance in my life. I have never once experienced a single day of hunger and that awareness brings me humbly to my knees. It also reminds me that I have the capacity and desire to share this abundance with others. I am going to find a way to give back and hopefully help someone else from going hungry.

Keeping it Fresh

There is nothing like a perfectly ripened avocado to make this girl happy. Throw in some organic, garden fresh jalapenos, garlic, onion, sweet peppers, cilantro and a touch of lime and you will have a guacamole that is better than....lots of other things.

Berry Good!

I am beginning to think that food speaks for itself cause I just don't seem to have much commentary this week. Maybe it's the self-preservationist in me that just wants to get on with the eating once the photo is done....

I will say this, I am extremely grateful for the variety of foods we get here, even in the winter time. These berries, purchased at the local grocery store, were fresh, priced right, and have a wonderful flavor. Enjoy. I know I will.

Food week! It's going to be a technically challenging experience for me because, while I enjoy cooking, preparing and eating food, I will have a learning curve with how to make food look appetizing in a photograph. I might be calling on my gourmet friends for a little help....
