Project Athena - Day 231 (Action)

How about a little nap action?

The Wild Animal Sanctuary near Keenesburg, CO is one of my favorite places to spend time in the spring and summer. Yesterday was my first winter's visit with the little guys. Despite the blistering wind and very cold temps, we all had a great time viewing the lions, tigers and bears (oh my) from the one mile long elevated walk way. I watched these two tigers pre-cuddling. 20 seconds after I snapped this photo of the napping invitation, they were spooning in that same spot, soaking in the sun rays and blissfully napping. This was the pace out there yesterday. Lots of napping and den warming which doesn't really require high shutter speeds. Still, I hope you enjoy the beauty and wholesomeness of this moment as much as I did.

Human Rocket

Here's just a taste of the action around our house this last week. If it can be climbed on, jumped on, vaulted over, crashed into, disassembled, or erected into a tent, this kid will "do it", only then to be mimicked by his younger brother.

A Beautiful Day for Some Lake Hockey

One thing I love about living in Northern Colorado is there is always some outdoor activity going on, no matter the season. Today I spotted this young hockey player out on City Park Lake in Fort Collins and stopped to watch him practice. His name is Zach and he plays in the NOCO Junior Hockey League. Having a love for the game, I found it refreshing to watch this athlete's impressive skating and puck handling skills. Thanks for the photos Zach and good luck to you in your aspiring hockey career.

And the World Keeps Spinning

There’s a sense possibly that the world is spinning so fast and nobody is able to control it
— Obama, 2014

I think these words, spoken by Obama in reference to the crisis of the day (ebola, ISIS, Russia) were very profound. I am realizing more and more that control is an illusion and the only way to really face the overwhelming fear of being out of control is to stop strategizing and go right into the heart that fear. Stop running, manipulating, blaming, shutting down and actually feel what it feels like to be out of control...controlled by everything. What else is there to do?

Horse and Rider

Today, a visit to the National Western Stock Show where there were hoards of people, lots of cows,  gazillions of boots and hats, some beautiful art and then these amazing young female riders. I don't know much about this sport but watching these graceful horses and riders become one as they sailed over the fences was very inspiring. I am not sure exactly which competition this was but I believe it was a Hunt Seat Equitation class.
